Today, Barceloneta mixes old traditions with modern attractions. You can see the fishermen’s legacy in its markets and restaurants. At the same time, you will find modern beach bars and exciting nightlife.

In Barceloneta you have 4 beaches to enjoy all year round, although summer is when they are usually the most crowded: Somorostro beach, Sant Miquel beach, San Sebastià beach and Barceloneta beach.
The proximity of these beaches to the city center means that they are always crowded in good weather. In addition, there are usually many street vendors offering all kinds of products and services. We advise you to go very early in the morning to get your dose of beach before a day of sightseeing in the neighborhood and the rest of the city.

2. Walk Around Port Vell
Port Vell connects Barceloneta to the rest of the city. It is a busy port with luxury yachts and fun attractions. Walk along the boardwalk to watch the boats or visit the Maremagnum shopping center. The Aquarium at Port Vell is a must-visit. It is one of Europe’s largest aquariums and has incredible marine life. Kids and adults love exploring the underwater tunnels.

6. Enjoy the church of Sant Miquel del Port and the Barceloneta market.
A few meters from the promenade Joan de Borbó, if you go into the streets where you find traditional stores and bars of all life, it is worth approaching this temple, one of the oldest buildings in the Barceloneta to enjoy its elegant Italian-inspired facade.
Just behind you can approach the neighborhood market that still retains its nineteenth-century metal structure and has a variety of stalls where you can buy the best fresh produce. In addition, there are food stalls and bars in the market where you can try typical dishes of the local cuisine.
You can buy cheese, ham and anything else you feel like for a picnic in the Ciutadella Park, which is very close to Barceloneta.
The streets of Barceloneta are narrow, colorful, and full of charm. Walk through them to find local markets, tiny shops, and hidden cafés. The area feels like a village in the middle of the city.
7.Take a walk around the Estación de Francia
France Station with its large metal structure in modernist style is a beautiful train station, reminiscent of the Orsay station in Paris. It was inaugurated in 1929 as part of the infrastructure for Barcelona to host the Universal Exhibition that same year.
From here you can take trains on the R2 line towards Castelldefels, Garraf, Vilanova or Sitges to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the metropolitan area of Barcelona if you feel like spending a relaxing day at the beach.
8.Enjoy a walk in front of the sea along the Barceloneta promenade
If you visit Barcelona in winter and it is cold enough to spend a day at the beach, you can enjoy the Barceloneta promenade. Its three kilometers are ideal for walking or cycling. It is also a very popular place for runners. There are many restaurants with terraces overlooking the sea where you can eat a delicious paella while enjoying the lively atmosphere of the neighborhood.
The promenade starts under the emblematic W hotel and takes you all the way to Port Olimpic.
9.Visit the Frank Ghery’s Goldfish
Enjoy a stroll along the seafront promenade to the spectacular steel sculpture by Canadian architect Frank Ghery that stands between buildings located on the beachfront, at the end of the promenade of Barceloneta.

Gambling and betting fans will undoubtedly enjoy themselves at the Casino Barcelona, as it is considered a true reference of leisure at a European level. It organizes poker games for players of all levels, and also has a wide range of slot machines and gaming tables.
In addition, Casino Barcelona hosts all kinds of events, offering sports broadcasts, salsa nights, monologues, concerts and even wine tastings and pairings. On the other hand, its facilities house different gastronomic establishments where you can taste local and international dishes, as well as bars and pubs where you can have a beer or a cocktail.
11.Strolling through the Barceloneta Park
If you want to take a quiet stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the waterfront, the Barcelonet park, opened in 1996, is the place to go for leisure in the neighborhood and has basketball courts and other facilities, plus it allows you to see some industrial buildings from the twentieth century.
La Barceloneta in the afternoon and evening
In its bars (classic or current) the custom of the “tardeo” is practiced, that is to say, of the pre-dinner aperitif that, sometimes, is prolonged until it becomes dinner itself. But, in addition, La Barceloneta has some nightclubs where you can continue the fun until the wee hours of the morning.
One of the most entertaining spots, especially when the weather is good, is the Port Olímpic, under the Mapfre and Arts towers, where there are several nightclubs, discos and terraces such as Carpe Diem, Icebarcelona and Shôko Club. In addition, in Carrer Reina Cristina, 5 is the popular local La Xampanyeria, always full of young people, attracted by its good prices, and where you can have a cava or a sandwich between two.
